This large (1000 sq/ft), 2-story summer house comfortably sleeps 6 people, is charmingly furnished, and is ideal for families or 2-3 couples to share. The 1st floor has
a queen bed in one bedroom, and a queen & 2 twin beds in the
other. A full bathroom is accessed from the common
hallway with a large deck overlooking the ocean. The second floor has a large oak dining table (seats 6) and a fully equipped kitchen. A large, open living area with an easy chair & two couches (one is a fold-out double bed) that opens out to a deck overlooking the ocean and outer islands (Please see Floor Plan below).

Penobscot Bay. A 3-minute walk to the harbor wharf and a 7-minute
walk to a beautiful (usually deserted), sandy
crescent beach with a volleyball net at one end and bon-fire
pit on the other.
A larger sandy
crescent beach is just a 20 minute walk (or a 7 minute bike
ride) along a dirt road that features gorgeous sweeping views
of Criehaven
Island (~ 1 mile kayak trip) ... the setting and inspiration
of acclaimed writer Elisabeth
Ogilvie's "Bennett's Island" book series. Many of these
literary works are in the house's library, including the "Tide"
& "Lover's" Trilogies.
Explore the many hiking trails to nearby bird
sanctuaries, Hemlock forests, rocky ledge points, and other beautiful
swimming beaches. Take a boat ride to Matinicus Rock Lighthouse to see the Puffin colonies and the site where the famous heroine lightkeeper, Abbie Burgess, once worked and lived. Prepare for spectacular views of the milky way, planets, stars, & satellites, as Matinicus Island is far from city light pollution.
A nearby gift shop features island crafts
and novelties. A weekly farmer's market has bakery items, sandwiches, soft drinks, & island crafts.
Extra provisions (including beer & wine) can be delivered by plane to a nearby landing strip from
the mainland grocery store for a small fee (weather permitting).
Moorings are available and can be reserved ahead.
Transportation to and from the island is accomplished by private ferry boats, airplane, and personal water crafts. Matinicus Island Cottage is a true remote getaway in every sense.
